We are going into our 15th season and have been "Going Green" since day one. We use all compact fluorescents [bus & home]. We built a recycle center the first year sorting down as fare as seperating different color glass, of course we do aluminum tin, plastic. We haul all our recyclables in to centers ourselves and try very hard to have our campers sort everything posible, providing extra trash bags. We have shared the design of our center with several other parks. Our pond Airader is powered by wind only, and we do not allow harmful chemicals on lawns near or away from the pond. We closely monitor water use, car washing, lawn watering, etc. We use only wind powered Mole Chasers in lue of chemicals, Our roads are of Recycled blacktop or gravel only, We have planted hundreds of trees each year here. We have all sand so they don't all make it as it would take a worlds supply of water and time to get them to all grow. But we gain some every year. We also engourage our Seasonals to plant and we do give trees free to them every few years if they will plant. Like the song " We were GREEN before Green was Cool"

We have a line of "Green" jigsaw puzzles that have wildflower seeds embedded in the peieces so that you can plant them when you're done OR if they end up in a lndfill, will sprout. The pictures are also "gree" with a "green" mesage. They are perfect for your giftshops. There is a lso a board game called "The Green Game" that teaches families how to "go green" in a fun and non threatening way. We can be contacted at 1-800-292-7676.

We have recently added a Geocache to our campground amenities for registered guests. It's location is at N 28 degrees 58.107 min, W 081 degrees 17.267 min. We're also developing a botanical map in both geo and letterbox version that takes the camper on a tour of our landscape. We carry a geoquest brochure as well from West Volusia County that highlights the historical buildings and features of our area. Thank you for posting this information.

Hi! While I have been doing PR/marketing for hotels & resorts in Orlando for sometime, I have just added an RV/campground to my client list. We are currently under new management and pouring in $1 million in upgrades. How do you recommend I let RV travelers know about these renovations? What are the top things RV'ers consider when making a reservation? (By the way, I do not handle their advertising, so I will have to use grassroots/PR tactics.) Thanks for any advice you may have! Certainly not unusual but a big profit center, golf cart rentals. I was at a park not too long ago and noticed they rent golf carts for $35/day or $175/week - and they were almost sold out all week. According to the managers, the "sold-out" status is common throughout the summer season. Interesting.

Just wanted to let you know that we have a geocache in our park. Geocachers who identify themselves at our gate do not have to pay a day use fee. The geocache is listed on the geocaching site and is called Campground Races.

Hi Evanne,
Why can you not access this page from the members page? I can only find this on the home page for ARVC.org
On a second issue, I just finished reading your site lines in the July ARVC report and loved your beginning about the various parks and types of campers that chose those parks. I wrote a piece on the need to change the rating systems that are presently used because of just that variation in camping likes and dislikes.
How can we collaberate on an article about the need for change.

Have you ever been to Bowman, ND (if not, get out a map)? I was there last week and stopped at the Tourist Information Center in the middle of this small, breezy town. I got to chatting with the tourism gal and the talk came around to RVing. She told me about an RVing couple that stopped in earlier in the day with their 2 grandchildren. They couldn't wait to get their RV parked and setup so they could go find not 1 but 2 geocaches in the area - the purpose of their visit and the type of fun they share with their grandchildren. Very interesting!

I was recently at Custer State Park in Custer, SD and came across a "virtual geo-cache". They've put together a nice handout with 12 questions (and blanks to record the answers) and GPS co-ordinates to locate the info. It sends visitors all over the park with a purpose. The ranger reported this activity was highly popular.

Visitors that complete the virtual geo-cache can send in the completed handout and are entered into a drawing for cool prizes such as a park entrance pass, books, hats, etc.

I thought this was a terrific idea! What do you think? Could this work in your park?

Our August ARVC Report takes a look at ancillary business. There are the tried and true ancillary income generators such as bike rentals, snack bars, general stores, etc. but I'm wondering...do you do anything slightly unusual that thrills guests and boosts the bottom line? Please, do share!

Thanks,

"Jellystone Park Goes Freen" was an initiative for our park this year also. We are re-cycling cans, plastic, newspaper, all cardboard, computer paper, shredded paper, catalogs and magazines. We have installed a re-cycling Center for staff and designated a staff member to be our re-cycling coordinatoer for 2008. All managers and team leaders have objectives related to "going green" which will be part of their bonus plan. We are composting leaves, grass clippings and non-protein food scraps and fertilizing our plants with it. We are also using the water from our koi pond as fertilizer. We have switched to ONLY eco-friendly cleaners at the park. We are utilyzing solar covers on both heated pools. We have partnered with a local tree company to accept all of their chipped tree clippings to keep them out of the landfill. We use some of it on our flower beds which conserves watering and prohibits weeds which decreases the amount of pestcides used. We also compost a lot of it over about 18 months which then turns into great soil! In 2008 we should be accepting over 100 truck loads from them - all of which would've ended up in the landfill. We have installed programable thermostats in all main buildings to reduce heating and cooling. We have planted over 100 new trees during the last 2 years. We are tracking our daily water usage and comparing it to occupancy to dedect any water leaks as quickly as possible. We have installed 4 rain barrels at different buildings which are used to water plants. We closed both of our drain fields in 2007 and spent 1.5 million to connect to public sewer. We have just ordered our first public "Recycling Center" to encourage our guest to participate in our efforts. Ideas we are evaluating for the future: waterless urinals motion sensors for interior lighting solar heating for pools an underground water collection reservoir for watering plants. We are thrilled that ARVC has chosen to promote "Plan-It Green"

We will be hosting a Geocache Weekend July 19th. It will consist of a 101 class on Geocaching, placing our first Geocache, and a shuttled day of geocaching throughout our area. This day is offered to all RV campers staying with us that weekend.

Comments: Hello! We want to list our 2 Caches with "Discover Geocaching" - they have been listed on geocaching.com for the past 2 years and I think that it is great that ARVC is picking up on this great activity! Here are the coordinates and names of our 2 caches: 1. SECRET SQUIRREL STASH - N40 DEG. 18.405 W078 DEG. 10.781 2. CAPTAIN CHIPMUNK - N40 DEG. 18.114 W078 DEG. 10.578 We do not have GPS units available as of yet - so cache hunters must bring their own. Also, we are in process of putting together a multi-stop cache and will send that info along when it is complete. Please acknowledge receipt of this info and send the requested link to my email address. Thanks.

Thanks ARVC, for creating a nicer, cleaner website. It looks like you are making it easy for members and visitors to find important information.
I am glad you revamped the site and added the much needed additional information.
As we are building our resort, we need all the information we can get our hands on about the latest ideas, techniques, products and such to become successful.
I hope you continually update the site with pertinent information.
Thanks,
Randy

P.S. Please skip any political crap, and stick to helping members be successful, make $, and make our customers happy.
